DELONGHI ECAM BLOCK ISSUE

SYMPTOMS = DRY GROUNDS IN THE GROUNDS CONTAINER AND NO COFFEE OR WATER GOING INTO DRIP TRAY AND NO COFFEE

So you have an ECAM DELONGHI machine like the ECAM.23.450.s or one of the other Delonghi ECAM machines. And you have a problem as follows. Either the coffee water is going straight into the drip tray and not through the coffee puck. Or the machine is going through the coffee cycle and failing to make the coffee and dropping dry grounds into the grounds tray, and then displays the error message “grounds too fine”.

Then this post is for you.

Both of these errors on the ECAM machines have the same solution – replace the valve block. There are two valves on the block, if main inlet valve fails, the coffee grounds just get ejected dry because the hot water is impeded. The pump will go quiet and vibrate as normal but its blocked. ┬áIf the other valve (pressure regulating) starts leaking during the coffee extraction process, water leaks into the tray instead of going through the puck. Often you will see brown coffee water leaking from this valve. The solution is the same. The entire valve block needs to be replaced.

I sell the valve blocks here. I have never met any ECAM machine with these issues that did not require a new valve block. And if the valves have not yet failed they will in the future. So if in doubt throw it out and save yourself a heap a time. You can try and repair them but they are plastic junk and will fail again and this part of your life can never be re-lived.

Why does this happen. Because it’s a race to the bottom folks.

The 2 valves that cause the issues.
