BREVILLE/SAGE GRINDER REPAIR
Has your Breville or Sage Coffee Machine or Grinder stopped grinding? – it’s probably making a clunking or whizzing noise and not grinding anything? It is possible a cog within the grinder mechanism has been stripped. This is usually caused my an object other than a coffee bean going through the grinder, usually a stem or coffee bean looking stone.
The good news is sometime this issue can be resolved without replacing the grinder. I said sometimes, here is the methodology, perhaps you won’t need to purchase a new grinder. I will use pictures and as always be as graphic as I can.
- Remove the cover plate attached to the motor and expose the scene below. You then need to remove the cog I m pointing at by unbolting it. It’s a reverse thread and you will need to hold the inner burr to undo it. When is it’s removed Springs and ball bearings will fall out. Don’t panic.
2. Now remove the drive cog, this is the one that is stripped and I intend to replace it. Yes I will have spares for sale.
3. Now it’s time to reassemble the grinder with the new cog in place. You have to be careful getting the springs and ball-bearings back in place, but it can be done, in one easy movement.

This is great, but I don’t understand how to simply “Remove the cover plate attached to the motor and expose the scene below”. In my Oracle I have a chute attached and all sorts of things like wires that don’t allow it to be so simply unscrewed and removed?
I’ve managed to get it off and the exact same part as you has stripped on my Oracle – the teeth are all gone. Where is it possible to buy a replacement part?
I’m also having a really tough time getting the bolt off the top – I’m turning clockwise but it’s nigh on impossible to get any leverage. Have sprayed WD40 and still no luck. Was it easy for you to get off?
